7 easy Tips to Speed Up Windows 10

This tutorial on the windows 10 operating system might very well be the last of its kind for a while, because I will be downgrading to windows 8.0 after this. My reasons  for this decision are:
  • The startup time of my laptop is doubled in windows 10
  • Most drivers like Bluetooth and wifi are not fully compatible with windows 10
  • The battery life reduced drastically(from 4hrs to 2hrs backup)

My laptop’s model is HP pavilion g6 with 4gb ram, core i3 2.3ghz processor. Hence, it is supposed to run the windows 10 OS without problems. Anyways for those of you who are very much in love with your windows 10. The tips below should be very helpful to speed up your windows 10 PC.

  1. DISABLE START UP PROGRAMS

By now I hope you have  enabled fast startup on your windows 10 pc. If the startup time isn’t improved then you must have too many startup programs running when you boot your computer.
To manage this:  Right click on right-click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager. Click the Startup tab (click More details if you don't see the Startup tab) now you can see the list of programs that start up with your computer. If you see a program that doesn't need to be there, right-click it and click Disable. You can also arrange the list of programs by Startup impact, if you'd like to see the programs that are taking up the most resources (and time).

2. FIND AND FIX PROBLEMS WITH TROUBLESHOOTING

To access windows 10 free built-in performance troubleshooter to find and fix problems that might be affecting your computer’s speed, Right click on the Start button select >> control panel. Go to Troubleshooting and under System and Security, click Run maintenance tasks.

            3. REMOVE TRANSPARENCY

Windows 10’s  start menu is known to be transparent..This feature is known to take up a lot of resources. So,disabling transparency would yield more battery life.To do this:
Open the Settings menu  choose Personalization > Colors and toggle off  Make Start, taskbar, and action center transparent.

             4. REMOVE SPECIAL EFFECTS

These is another aspect of windows 10’s built in graphic features that take up resources hence slowing down its performance. To remove special  effects:
right-click the Start button and click System. Click Advanced system settings to open the System Properties menu, and then, under Performance, click Settings...
This will open the Performance Options menu. In the Visual Effects tab, either choose Adjust for best performance to turn off all unnecessary animations and special effects, or choose Custom: and deselect the visual effects you think can live without. When you're finished, click OK to apply your changes.

              5.  REDUCE THE BOOT MENU TIME-OUT

The boot- menu is always displayed for a few seconds whenever  we start up our  PCs.The boot menu contains options for advanced users like: Boot device order, boot into safe mode, turn fan on/off e.t.c. The time allowed for the boot menu to be displayed also has an impact on the speediness of our windows  10’s boot. To optimize this:
right-click on the Start button and click Control Panel. Go to System > Advanced system settings, and, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
Next to Time to display list of operating systems:, change the value from 30 seconds to 10 seconds and click OK.

      6. RESTART YOUR PC

Restarting your windows 10 PC once in a while is very important because of its built in FAST STARTUP which works by saving a snapshot of of your PC and its processes in a hiberfile for faster boot-up. Restart is not affected by Fast Startup, so if you have Fast Startup enabled, restarting your PC is the only way to fully clear the memory and shutdown processes that might be taking up resources. Also note that shutting down your computer is not the same as restarting it.

     7. CLEAN UP YOUR HARD DISK

All windows operating systems come with an inbuilt junk cleaner called Disk clean up. Using this app from time to time will help improve the performance of your windows operating system.
To access disk clean up Goto:
Start menu and search disk clean up open it use as shown below
