Want your smartphone to have a good battery-life? Start charging it the right way

If you want to get the most use out of your phone between charges, you can't go wrong with these tips to Start charging your smartphones the right way.

best way to charge a phone

You know how much you rely on your phone. It’s no wonder that robust battery life means more to you than you ever thought possible.

This might come as a shock, but most of you have been charging the phones and tablets the wrong way.

You must have heard or read on WhatsApp about phone on overnight charging exploding and causing injuries or death to the user while the person was asleep. Well don't worry, the overnight charging wouldn't do that to your phone, but it is also not recommended, according to the findings of Cadax , a company that offers devices that test smartphone and other batteries.

According to Battery University, which the company runs for free, the phone needs to charged in short bursts and not too frequently, if you want to a good overall battery life.

It doesn't matter if you only charge up 10% or 20% as, according to Battery University: "Partial charges cause no harm."

Also, if you want to lessen the wear and tear to your battery, do not hit the red zone, which is 15 per cent in most of the phones.

Try to keep the device between 65% and 75% -- "the sweet spot", according to the website.

Many of you might be thinking that "hey, I don't have a desk job. I won't be around a wall socket all the time." Well in that case lay your hands on a power bank.

The experts have also recommended that never ever, never ever, never ever charge your battery fully.

Try to keep it around 95 and you are good to go.

Why you ask?

Well, that's because today's modern lithium-ion batteries do "not need to be fully charged, nor is it desirable to do so."

The website states: "In fact, it is better not to fully charge, because a high voltage stresses the battery".

And now, the last point, which may confuse you.
'You don't need to remove the charger when it's full'

What? 'I just read something on the contrary'. Well, yes you are right. But, if it so happens that you have left your phone on charging and it has hit the 100% mark, then the charger, according to the website, will automatically turn off.

Still, it is recommended that you avoid leaving your phone on overnight charging, hitting the 100 per cent mark and inculcate the habit of juicing up the device frequently and in small doses.

Chrome begins Blocking annoying ads based on the Better Ads Standards

While most advertisements on the web is aware of client encounter, throughout the years, chrome has progressively gotten notification from clients that some promotions can be especially meddling. As was reported last June, Chrome will handle this issue by expelling advertisements from destinations that don't take after the Better Ads Standards. We've already talked about a portion of the points of interest encompassing how Chrome shields clients from nosy advertisements, however as we approach the dispatch date of February 15, we needed to go in the engine and examine how this component functions in more detail.
  better ads standards

What are the Better Ads Standards?

The Better Ads Standards are the consequence of open customer inquiry by the Coalition for Better Ads, an industry assembled and concentrated on enhancing clients' involvement with web based promoting. More than 40,000 web clients in North America and Europe took part in reviews where they were indicated regular advertisement encounters and requested to assess how meddlesome the encounters were. The most meddlesome advertisement encounters incorporate prestitial promotions (those full-page promotions that piece you from seeing the substance on the page) and glimmering energized promotions. More insights about the exploration and strategy can be found on the Coalition's site.

better ads standards mobile and pc

Despite the fact that a couple of the promotion encounters that disregard the Better Ads Standards are issues in the commercial itself, the larger part of risky advertisement encounters are controlled by the site proprietor —, for example, high promotion thickness or prestitial advertisements with commencement. This outcome prompted the approach Chrome takes to shield clients from a considerable lot of the meddling advertisement encounters recognized by the Better Ads Standards: assess how well locales agree to the Better Ads Standards, educate destinations of any issues experienced, give the chance to destinations to address distinguished issues, and expel promotions from locales that keep on maintaining a hazardous advertisements encounter.

Today, the Better Ads Standards comprises of 12 promotion encounters that exploration observed to be especially irritating to clients. Picture Source: Coalition for Better Ads

Assessing locales for infringement

Locales are assessed by looking at an example of pages from the site. Contingent upon what number of infringement of the Better Ads Standards are discovered, the site will be assessed as having a status of Passing, Warning, or Failing. The assessment status of destinations can be gotten to through the Ad Experience Report API. Site proprietors can likewise observe more nitty gritty outcomes, for example, the particular infringement of the Better Ads Standards that were found, by means of the Ad Experience Report in Google's Search Console. From the Report site proprietors can likewise ask for that their site be re-checked on after they have tended to the rebellious advertisement encounters.

The Ad Experience Report in Google's Search Console permits site proprietors to see their general site assessment status, and also the specifics of any infringement distinguished on their site.

Separating on destinations at the system level

At a specialized level, when a Chrome client explores to a page, Chrome's promotion channel first checks if that page has a place with a site that falls flat the Better Ads Standards. Assuming this is the case, organize asks for on the page —, for example, those for JavaScript or pictures — are checked against a rundown of known advertisement related URL designs. On the off chance that there is a match, Chrome will hinder the demand, keeping the promotion from showing on the page. This arrangement of examples depends on people in general EasyList channel leads, and incorporates designs coordinating numerous promotion suppliers including Google's own advertisement stages, AdSense and DoubleClick.

What this looks like in Chrome

how chrome blocks ads
Chrome will consequently piece promotions on destinations that fall flat the Better Ads Standards, utilizing the approach portrayed previously. At the point when no less than one Ad asked for has been blocked, Chrome will demonstrate the client a message showing that advertisement blocking has happened and in addition a choice to debilitate this setting by choosing "permit promotions on this site." For work area clients, the notice in Chrome's address bar will seem to be like Chrome's current fly up blocker. Android clients will see message in a little infobar at the base of their screen, and can tap on "points of interest" to see more data and abrogate the default setting.

Chrome will naturally square meddling promotions on locales that have been found to damage the Better Ads Standards, yet clients have the choice to cripple the component by choosing "permit advertisements on this site."

Early outcomes demonstrate positive advance for clients

While the aftereffect of this activity is that Chrome clients won't see advertisements on locales that reliably abuse the Better Ads Standards, our objective isn't to channel any promotions whatsoever yet to enhance the experience for all web clients. As of February 12, 42% of locales which were coming up short the Better Ads Standards have settled their issues and are currently passing. This is the result we were seeking after — that destinations would find a way to settle nosy promotions encounters themselves and advantage all web clients. Be that as it may, if a site keeps on keeping up resistant promotion encounters 30 days in the wake of being informed of infringement, Chrome will start to piece advertisements on that site.

We're supported by early outcomes indicating industry moves from meddling advertisement encounters, and look sending to proceeded with joint effort with the business toward a future where Chrome's promotion sifting innovation won't be required.

Google Finalizes $1.1 billion deal for HTC design talent

Google's $1.1 billion arrangement to get a large portion of HTC's cell phone design division has authoritatively been finalized. Equipment SVP Rick Osterloh shared the news in a blog entry, hailing the landing of a "unimaginably gifted group to take a shot at far superior and more inventive items in the years to come."
       google-htc-design-deal
The arrangement includes more than 2,000 HTC engineers moving over to Google. They will all stay in Taiwan; Osterloh takes note of that Taipei is turning into Google's greatest building center in the Asia-Pacific area. HTC's agreement fabricating operations and VR division are not influenced, but rather a considerable larger part of the cell phone R&D group is joining Google, as indicated by a man comfortable with the issue.
The move speaks to a genuine extension of Google's equipment endeavors, and the most clear use of the new building ability is in its line of Pixel cell phones. Google worked with a subset of its new HTC enlists on an agreement for the Pixel and Pixel 2, as indicated by a source acquainted with the advancement, and now the organization will have a bigger R&D group in-house.

Google is as yet a little player as far as cell phones transported, however the Pixel telephones are pointed soundly at top of the line players like Apple and Samsung. Other Android makers "know why we're doing this," Osterloh tells Bloomberg in a meeting. "Honestly, Apple is doing extremely well in created markets."

While the Pixel line isn't exactly standard yet, the HTC bargain is a concentrated push to give Google's equipment division a moment help in data transfer capacity. "We don't need it to be a specialty thing," Osterloh disclosed to The Verge in a meeting a year ago. "We would like to offer items in high volumes in five years."

Remote Desktop is now on Chrome web browser

Remote desktop refers to a software or operating system feature that allows a personal computer's desktop environment to be run remotely on one system (usually a PC, but the concept applies equally to a server), while being displayed on a separate client device. Remote desktop applications have varying features. Some allow attaching to an existing user's session (i.e., a running desktop) and "remote controlling", either displaying the remote control session or blanking the screen. Taking over a desktop remotely is a form of remote administration.

            Chrome remote desktop

Tools like remote desktop access have been invented, to help ease the pain of tech support.
Thanks to Google’s Chrome Remote Desktop, now available on the Web.
Chrome Remote Desktop actually isn’t that new. It has been around for as long as Chrome OS and Chromebooks have been around. The only difference, at least for now, is that you can use it directly in your web browser, specifically Chrome. That is, if you’re the one remotely accessing someone else’s computer.

The way it works is still the same. The other end, that is, the person whose computer you will access, will still have to be installed the Chrome Remote Desktop extension. He or she will then generate a PIN that you will use to complete the connection and have access to their computer from your side.

So why the new web browser version? That’s because the old version, which exists as a Chrome web app, will soon be gone. Google has decided that the app path isn’t exactly going as planned and will be scrapping those completely. And one of those is its own Remote Desktop app.

Read: 9 Tricks for Saving Mobile Data On Your Android Phone

At the moment, the Chrome Remote Desktop is still labeled in beta, so it isn’t something you should depend on just yet. Even Google’s support pages have not yet been updated and still point to the old ways of doing things. Fortunately, that old way is still accessible and completely usable. At least until the web version rolls out in stable form.

Newest Version of WhatsApp Allows You to Delete Sent Messages

We've all typed out messages that we wished we could take back. For this reason, Gmail added an official “undo” feature in 2015—and now, There are reports that WhatsApp has followed in their footsteps by adding the option to delete and revoke messages shortly after they've been sent.
                                     Whatsapp delete sent messages
WhatsApp has been reportedly testing its "Delete for everyone" feature since early 2017, but it's now being officially introduced with the app’s latest version.  Its new delete feature allows users to retract messages that have been sent in both one-on-one and group texts.
The feature is “particularly useful if you sent a message to the wrong chat or if the message you sent contains a mistake.”

How to Delete Sent WhatsApp Messages

When you select the “Delete” option, you’ll be presented with the choice to remove messages from both your own phone and others people’s devices. Users will be able to erase messages from one-on-one conversations or group chats up to seven minutes after they’re sent.

Keep in mind, however, that some recipients might see the message (or receive a notification for it) before it vanishes forever. Also, for the feature to work at all, both the sender and sendee need to have version 2.17.70. And if an attempt to delete a message turns out to be unsuccessful, WhatsApp won’t provide you with an error notification.

Facebook Messenger Now Lets you Send Money to Friends with PayPal

After patnering with Skype's mobile App to make payments earlier this year, online payment gateway PayPal now lets US users send and request money via Facebook Messenger.
facebook messenger send reveive money with paypal PayPal is the leader in peer-to-peer (P2P) payments with $24 billion in P2P volume during the third quarter of 2017 alone (up 47 percent year-over-year).

The ability to send and request money in Messenger gives people more choice and more convenient ways to get things done in different contexts.

"Whether it's splitting a bill for a cab ride or a night out, paying for your share of the rent, or making sure you get paid back for mom's birthday present, PayPal makes exchanging money between friends and family simple," the company said in a statement late Friday.

Last year, PayPal partnered with Facebook Messenger, allowing more than 2.5 million US customers to connect their accounts, use PayPal to shop on Messenger and enable Messenger as a means of communication for PayPal users.

How to connect your PayPal account with Messenger

This feature can be accessed the same way one used to pay with debit and credit card. Tap blue plus icon and hit the green payment button. Two options will appear from which one can select PayPal. If someone is already using Facebook Messenger for payments, he can just tap to change button and select Paypal.
This feature has just one problem that it needs another layer of protection in case someone gets hold of your account. To cater this issue Facebook should take some measures to refrain from such kind of issues from occurring.
It seems that the tech giant want to increase the ever declining user base with the launch of other such social media platforms. Recently Facebook launched screen sharing option that let you share your screen during Facebook Live.

"In addition to enabling P2P payments with PayPal in Messenger, we are also introducing our first-ever PayPal customer service bot for Messenger, so PayPal customers can seamlessly receive payment and account support directly in the app," said Bill Ready, Chief Operating Officer, PayPal.

Lets see whether people like this feature or not.

WhatsApp’s Live Location feature: Tell friends where you are

WhatsApp has announced a notable new feature today, one that may prove popular with millions of security-conscious, nosy, and impatient people globally.

                                 WhatsApp’s Live Location
Landing on both Android and iOS “in the coming weeks,” the new Live Location feature allows WhatsApp users to share their real-time location with friends and family. It’s worth noting here that WhatsApp already allows you to share your current location, however that feature is static — if you’re moving around, friends are not able to see where you’re going.
The new Live Location feature, on the other hand, lets people track where you are for a period of time chosen by you.

How WhatsApp’s Live Location works

To initiate Live Location, go to the conversation — individual or group — that you want to share your location with. Then hit the little “attach” (paper clip) button that exists in the message field and go to “Location.” Now, in addition to the existing static location-sharing feature, you’ll see “Share Live Location,” as well.
You can specify how long you wish to share your location for, be it 15 minutes, one hour, or eight hours, although there doesn’t appear to be a customizable timer that lets you share your location for “18 minutes,” for example.
How to use WhatsApp’s Live Location
                            Above: Set time
But you can cease sharing your location at any time by hitting the “stop sharing” button.

                            Above: Stop sharing?
And, interestingly, multiple people from the same group can all share their location on the same map.

How to stop WhatsApp’s Live Location sharing
                        Above: Group locations
This kind of location-sharing functionality is nothing new, of course. Glympse has offered something similar for years, while France’s Zenly has been gaining traction for its location-sharing app. Google, too, had embraced real-time location sharing with Latitude, a service it ended in 2013. However, last year Google launched its new standalone Trusted Contacts app, which offers near-identical functionality, before bringing another similar feature directly into Google Maps back in March.
But with more than one billion active daily users, WhatsApp has emerged as the social glue for countless social interactions — covering friends, families, neighbors, work colleagues, and everyone in between.
There are many uses for this feature — if you’re the sort of person who hates hanging around waiting for someone to arrive at a designated meeting spot, you can see (if the other person allows) exactly how long you’ll have to wait. But perhaps the most common use-case will be worried parents or partners wanting to know where their loved ones are late at night.
For the privacy-concerned, WhatsApp is quick to remind users that — like messages and calls — Live Location is “end-to-end encrypted.”

New Android Ransomware Gets Activated by Home Button; Encrypts Data & Changes PIN Code

Security researchers have discovered a new Android ransomware that encrypts data on the infected device and then changes its PIN number to make sure that victims are completely locked out of their devices unless they give into the demands of criminals. Dubbed aptly as DoubleLocker, this latest strain of Android ransomware is distributed through fake Adobe Flash Player downloads using malicious websites.

Misusing Android accessibility services, DoubleLocker is activated once the fake Adobe Flash Player app is launched. The app requests activation of the malware’s accessibility service, named as “Google Play Service,” after which its uses these accessibility permissions to activate device administrator rights and set itself as the default Home application without user consent.
Setting itself as a launcher makes this Android ransomware more persistent, since whenever the user clicks on the Home button, the ransomware gets activated. The only way to get rid of DoubleLocker is to do a factory reset, researchers said.

If you, however, use a rooted Android device, security researchers said that you can get past the PIN lock without a factory reset. “For the method to work, the device needed to be in the debugging mode before the ransomware got activated.”
If this condition is met, then the user can connect to the device by ADB and remove the system file where the PIN is stored by Android. This operation unlocks the screen so that the user can access their device. Then, working in safe mode, the user can deactivate device administrator rights for the malware and uninstall it. In some cases, a device reboot is needed.

This Android ransomware could be used to steal banking credentials in the future

DoubleLocker is developed on the foundations of a banking trojan. While it currently doesn’t have the modules to steal users’ banking credentials, the functionality could be easily added in the future.

“Given its banking malware roots, DoubleLocker may well be turned into what could be called ransom-bankers,” Lukáš Štefanko, the ESET researcher who discovered DoubleLocker, said. “Two-stage malware that first tries to wipe your bank or PayPal account and subsequently locks your device and data to request a ransom.”
Right now, the malware is specifically focused on extorting money from its victims by locking them out of their devices. The ransom has been set to 0.0130 BTC (approximately USD 73 at the time of this writing) with the criminals having added a message that it needs to be paid within 24 hours. ESET added that even after 24 hours, the attackers aren’t wiping the data as it remains encrypted.

Here's how to protect yourself from Android malware:

1. Don't open files that you don't recognize.
2. Don't install apps from third-party sources.
3. Install updates as soon as they become available.
4. Use anti-virus software on all Android-based devices.

Also, those users who even glance at the permissions an app is asking for should be okay since it’s basically telling you that it will change your password and erase your data.
