Remote Desktop is now on Chrome web browser

Remote desktop refers to a software or operating system feature that allows a personal computer's desktop environment to be run remotely on one system (usually a PC, but the concept applies equally to a server), while being displayed on a separate client device. Remote desktop applications have varying features. Some allow attaching to an existing user's session (i.e., a running desktop) and "remote controlling", either displaying the remote control session or blanking the screen. Taking over a desktop remotely is a form of remote administration.
            Chrome remote desktop
Tools like remote desktop access have been invented, to help ease the pain of tech support.
Thanks to Google’s Chrome Remote Desktop, now available on the Web.
Chrome Remote Desktop actually isn’t that new. It has been around for as long as Chrome OS and Chromebooks have been around. The only difference, at least for now, is that you can use it directly in your web browser, specifically Chrome. That is, if you’re the one remotely accessing someone else’s computer.

The way it works is still the same. The other end, that is, the person whose computer you will access, will still have to be installed the Chrome Remote Desktop extension. He or she will then generate a PIN that you will use to complete the connection and have access to their computer from your side.

So why the new web browser version? That’s because the old version, which exists as a Chrome web app, will soon be gone. Google has decided that the app path isn’t exactly going as planned and will be scrapping those completely. And one of those is its own Remote Desktop app.

At the moment, the Chrome Remote Desktop is still labeled in beta, so it isn’t something you should depend on just yet. Even Google’s support pages have not yet been updated and still point to the old ways of doing things. Fortunately, that old way is still accessible and completely usable. At least until the web version rolls out in stable form.

7 easy Tips to Speed Up Windows 10

This tutorial on the windows 10 operating system might very well be the last of its kind for a while, because I will be downgrading to windows 8.0 after this. My reasons  for this decision are:
  • The startup time of my laptop is doubled in windows 10
  • Most drivers like Bluetooth and wifi are not fully compatible with windows 10
  • The battery life reduced drastically(from 4hrs to 2hrs backup)

My laptop’s model is HP pavilion g6 with 4gb ram, core i3 2.3ghz processor. Hence, it is supposed to run the windows 10 OS without problems. Anyways for those of you who are very much in love with your windows 10. The tips below should be very helpful to speed up your windows 10 PC.

By now I hope you have  enabled fast startup on your windows 10 pc. If the startup time isn’t improved then you must have too many startup programs running when you boot your computer.
To manage this:  Right click on right-click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager. Click the Startup tab (click More details if you don't see the Startup tab) now you can see the list of programs that start up with your computer. If you see a program that doesn't need to be there, right-click it and click Disable. You can also arrange the list of programs by Startup impact, if you'd like to see the programs that are taking up the most resources (and time).

To access windows 10 free built-in performance troubleshooter to find and fix problems that might be affecting your computer’s speed, Right click on the Start button select >> control panel. Go to Troubleshooting and under System and Security, click Run maintenance tasks.

Windows 10’s  start menu is known to be transparent..This feature is known to take up a lot of resources. So,disabling transparency would yield more battery life.To do this:
Open the Settings menu  choose Personalization > Colors and toggle off  Make Start, taskbar, and action center transparent.

These is another aspect of windows 10’s built in graphic features that take up resources hence slowing down its performance. To remove special  effects:
right-click the Start button and click System. Click Advanced system settings to open the System Properties menu, and then, under Performance, click Settings...
This will open the Performance Options menu. In the Visual Effects tab, either choose Adjust for best performance to turn off all unnecessary animations and special effects, or choose Custom: and deselect the visual effects you think can live without. When you're finished, click OK to apply your changes.

The boot- menu is always displayed for a few seconds whenever  we start up our  PCs.The boot menu contains options for advanced users like: Boot device order, boot into safe mode, turn fan on/off e.t.c. The time allowed for the boot menu to be displayed also has an impact on the speediness of our windows  10’s boot. To optimize this:
right-click on the Start button and click Control Panel. Go to System > Advanced system settings, and, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
Next to Time to display list of operating systems:, change the value from 30 seconds to 10 seconds and click OK.

Restarting your windows 10 PC once in a while is very important because of its built in FAST STARTUP which works by saving a snapshot of of your PC and its processes in a hiberfile for faster boot-up. Restart is not affected by Fast Startup, so if you have Fast Startup enabled, restarting your PC is the only way to fully clear the memory and shutdown processes that might be taking up resources. Also note that shutting down your computer is not the same as restarting it.

All windows operating systems come with an inbuilt junk cleaner called Disk clean up. Using this app from time to time will help improve the performance of your windows operating system.
To access disk clean up Goto:
Start menu and search disk clean up open it use as shown below

How to Identify a Song on Any Smartphone, PC, or Tablet

Before now to Identify a song playing on the TV,radio, or in a movie, our best bet was to hope our friends knew it or try to listen to the lyrics and search for them. Now, you can just have your phone, tablet, or PC listen to it to get the song details
Apps like Shazam, Siri, Google Now, and Cortana can all do this.

iPhone and iPad : SIRI
siri voice search
Press and hold the iPhone’s physical “Home” button to open Siri.
You will hear two quick beeps to tell you that Siri has woken up and is waiting to do your bidding.
Once Siri has opened,  ask a question or ask Siri to perform a task such as emailing or texting. Siri will automatically detect when you have stopped speaking, but you can optionally press the microphone icon to show you have finished speaking.
If you requested Siri to do something such as send an email or text, Siri will show you a draft of the proposed message before it is sent.  To send the message,  say “send” or touch the “send” button.

google now voice search
Google built this into the Google search app on Android. Arguably part of Google Now, this is one of the many “OK Google” voice commands you can use on Android.
To use it, you can just say “OK Google, what is this song?” if you have the OK Google hotword enabled anywhere. Or, tap the microphone on the search bar at the top of your home screen and say “What is this song?” Google also offers an “Okay Google, Shazam this song” shortcut if you have the Shazam app installed — that will immediately open the Shazam app instead of using Google’s own song-identification feature.

Windows 10 : CORTANA
cortana voice search
Cortana is your clever new personal assistant.
Cortana will help you find things on your PC, manage your calendar, track packages, find files, chat with you, and tell jokes. The more you use Cortana, the more personalized your experience will be.
To get started, type a question in the search box on the taskbar. Or select the microphone icon and talk to Cortana. (Typing works for all types of PCs, but you need a mic to talk.)

shazam voice search
Shazam, the app that tells you the name of whatever song is playing in the background,Apple hasn’t yet made Siri part of Mac OS X, so you can’t use Siri to do this on a Mac like you can use Cortana to do this on a Windows 10 PC. However, Shazam has made a free version of its song-identification app available for Mac users. You can download Shazam for Mac from the Mac App Store.
Interestingly, the app runs automatically in the background, listening to songs playing nearby and building up a list of songs you’ve heard playing nearby. You can wonder “what were those songs playing earlier?” and scroll through a list of them if your Mac was turned on at the time you were hearing them.
This also will pick up music playing on your Mac, assuming you’re playing it from your Mac’s speakers and its microphone can hear it.

Windows 7, Linux, Chrome OS, and  Anything With a Web Browser
midomi voice search
Midomi is a web-based tool provided by a SoundHound, a Shazam competitor. This is the closest thing there is a to a web-based version of Shazam.
This tool instructs you to “sing or hum” a particular song, but you don’t have to do that. Play the actual song for your computer’s microphone to hear and it will identify the song.
As with the above tools, this can pick up audio coming out of your computer’s speakers, too. You can use it to identify a song playing on your computer itself.

Obviously, this trick depends on matching a recorded song playing to a fingerprint of that recorded song in a database somewhere. It generally won’t work with songs being played live. If you can hear some of the lyrics, just plugging them into Google or another search engine often works wonders. Try enclosing them in quotes to find pages containing just those specific phrases. You’ll hopefully find lyrics pages associated with that particular song.

First of all, please download the program and install it on your computer (DO NOT install it on the disk where you lost your data, otherwise those lost files and data will be overwritten.).

1. Select Types of Lost Data

 Select Types of Lost Data
When launching this program, first to be noticed is the file type select page. All the common file formats are classified into 6 different categories in this page, including Graphic, Audio, Document, Video, Email and Other. All the categories are checked in default. To choose only the specific types of the files you want to retrieve will sharply accelerate the scan speed.

2. Select a Location to Start Finding Data

Scan Your Computer or Device

Please select a location to start finding data, like Desktop, Windows Libraries, Hard Disk Drives, Lost Hard Disk Drives (This option is suitable for the situation of a data loss caused by deleting a partition, losing a partition or re-partition. Our program will read the partition table and list all the deleted partition info under it.)

Step 2: Scan Your Computer or Device

In the upper part of the program is the process bar displaying the status of the recovery. Next to the bar there are a Stop and Pause button. The Pause button allows you to temporarily pause the scan and resume it later. Under the process bar is the estimated remaining time and a scan statue displays the process in percentage.

Technically the first scan will be very quick. Our program will first list all the files that are simply deleted or cleaned from the recycle bin. A pop up window will remind you to use Deep Scan for a further recovery initially after you get the first scan result. Use Deep Scan under the following situations:
1. You cannot find the files you need from the first scan.
2. The recovered files cannot be correctly open.
By clicking Deep Scan at the left bottom, our program will perform a new sector by sector scan,
Deep Scan for a further recovery
which will take longer than the first scan. Please be patient and do not interrupt it in the middle of the process if not necessary.

Step 3: Preview and Recover the Files

Preview and Recover the Files

The scan result interface is divided into 3 parts. At the left is the Directory Tree list, which offers you 3 methods ( by Path, types and Time) to quickly filter the files. The window in the middle displays all the files and folders under the folder selected in the left window with more info (date and type). The window at the right side displays a thumbnail and info for the file selected in the middle window. It provides a Preview option to preview some specific file types in the program.

After the preview or search, you can select the targeted files and press Recover button to recover and save them on your computer or storage device (Please DO NOT save the files into the drive or device where you lost the data).

Do You have an Active Antivirus Software, Firewall or Internet security? Check If Its Working

This post gives you a complete insight on an active antivirus software. These days cybercrimes just keep rising very fast leaving  many digital device  users open to various forms of attack from viruses, malware and so on. These attacks are very bad because they can make the use of our devices very frustrating .When you dont have active antivirus software these viruses get access to our systems via an unsecure internet connection or downloads.Hence, this post is aimed at tackling this security issue, just sit back and enjoy it.

                            active antivirus software
At first, it may appear that the simplest way to see if you have an active antivirus software would be to gather up thousands of  crazy viruses, and to set them lose on a network. Then, you can go back and measure the percentage that were blocked in order to determine the effectiveness of your active antivirus software. However, these results are not foolproof since it might fail to expose critical flaws in your security.
Before attempting this kind of test, you must first check to make sure that your network security is actually working. A better way of doing this would be to test just one simple virus, and alter it in various ways to detect specific vulnerabilities.
You can get a benign test virus here. This file shouldn’t hurt your system, but it SHOULD trigger your antivirus.
Now that you have a virus for testing, you’ll also want to set up an external Linux web server, FTP server and email server to deliver the file. In order to truly test the capabilities of your security, you’ll also want to switch between different ports.
For example, you may want to set up web servers on port 80 and 242. And you may want to set up the POP server on port 110 and another on port 23 – which is normally used for Telnet.
Then, try and push the file into your network using different means, and hiding the file in different ways.
  • Try sending it as a simple email attachment.
  • Try compressing the virus into a ZIP file
  • Try making a ZIP file using a ZIP file containing the virus
  • Try to single and double ZIP the virus, and password-protecting it
  • Try unconventional compression formats like RAR or GZIP
  • Try changing the name of the file
  • Try changing the file extension so that it appears to be another type of document (.PDF, .JPG, .PPT)
  • Embed them into a document such as Word or Excel.
If you use your imagination, you could probably come up with a hundred variations. Once you’ve done this, you’re ready to start testing your active antivirus software.
Try emailing the file into your network, and also try sending it out from within your network.  Additionally, you’ll want to try sending it internally from one machine to another.
Post all of these files up on your web servers and FTP servers, and try downloading all of the files.
Set up an online message board on your web server and see if the virus files can be uploaded to the forum as an attachment. Also, try doing the same on your private, intranet if you have one in place.
Try downloading the files from other sources, such as Gmail or any other hosted applications that could potentially be used to distribute viruses.
As you grow your options, you’ll develop a wide matrix of potential vulnerabilities. Keep a spreadsheet of your results in order to spot patterns.
Once you’ve broadly secured your network against a single virus, exhaustively tested in every possible way, you’ll have much more to gain from more advanced testing.
N.B- Always test offline, and never compromise a live, critical system.

How to do a Clean upgrade to windows 10, the Easy Way

                 upgrade to windows 10
The  Latest version of Microsoft’s operating system is Windows 10,it comes with a lot of cool features like:
  • The Start Menu looks slightly different from the one found in Windows 7, mainly because it brings Live Tiles from Windows 8, making it a lot more interactive which is a nice feature.
  • You can customise the Windows 10 Start menu to your liking, pinning the apps you use most and making some larger and some smaller.
  • Cortana, the digital assistant, similar to Siri and Google Now, has been available on Windows Phone for a long while but now assists you on Windows 10 PCs and tablets.
  • There's also Windows Ink Workspace which you can display by tapping the new icon in the notification area. Plus, you can handwrite an appointment note, and Cortana can provide you with the option to set it as a reminder.
  • Action Centre is a new feature which is much like the notification centre you're probably used to on your smartphone
  • Microsoft Edge includes a reading mode  but it also has built-in tools to web page annotation, either with a keyboard, pen or a finger. There's also integration with Cortana to provide additional information.

These are some of the new features. However, this tutorial will be focused on upgrade to windows 10.
The process involved in the upgrade to windows 10 moves old files, settings and programs from your previous windows system to your new one. If you want a fresh system though try the methods outlined below.
upgrade process moves old files, settings, and programs from your previous Windows system to your new one. If you want a completely fresh system, though, you have a couple options.

This is particularly useful if you’ve purchased a new Windows 10 PC and it includes manufacturer-installed bloatware you don’t want. Or, you may need to perform a clean install on a computer without an existing Windows system after installing a new hard drive. Previously, Microsoft forced users to upgrade to Windows 10 before they could start fresh and do a clean install–which was annoyingly complicated and time-consuming. Now, things are much easier, since you can activate Windows 10 with a Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 key.

Option 1: Create an Installation Media and Install Windows from Scratch
The usual method of performing a clean install is still  very useful for windows 10. You just need to download and create installation media, either on a DVD or a flash drive, and install it from there.

Download the Windows 10 media creation tool from Microsoft. This tool will download the correct Windows 10 installation files for your system, and help you create an installation DVD or flash drive. Start it up and select the “Create installation media for another PC” option to create installation media.
                                 Windows 10 media creation tool

Ensure you select the correct type of installation media for the copy of Windows 10 that’s licensed for your PC — Windows 10 Home or Professional. (If “Windows 10” is the only option, you can safely use that and it will detect what version you want.) You should also choose your language and select whether you want the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows here. Most people will want the 64-bit version, but you can create installation media that includes both, and the installer will automatically select the most appropriate one when you use it to install Windows on a computer.

choose windows language

Install Windows 10 from the installation media like you would any other operating system. Restart your computer with the USB drive or DVD inserted, and boot from that device. This may require you change a setting in the BIOS, access a boot menu, or use the “Use a device” option in the advanced startup options on a modern Windows 8 or 10 device that includes UEFI firmware instead of the traditional BIOS. Select “Install Now” once the Windows installer starts.
Next, you’ll see the activation screen. What you do here depends on your situation:
  • If you’ve never installed and activated Windows 10 on this computer before, you’ll see the activation screen. Enter your Windows 10 key here. If you don’t have one, but you have a valid 7, 8, or 8.1 key, enter it here instead.
  • If you’ve ever installed and activated Windows 10 on this computer before, click “I don’t have a product key”. Windows will automatically activate once it’s installed.

The second situation works because of how Windows 10 activates PCs. When you install and activate Windows 10 on a system for the first time, the installer confirms that you have a “genuine Windows” system installed and registers your hardware with Microsoft’s servers. After that, you shouldn’t have to enter that key again on the same PC. Microsoft will recognize your hardware the next time you install Windows 10 on that machine, confirm it’s registered, and automatically activate itself.

activate windows
Go through the setup process normally until you see the “Which type of installation do you want?” screen. Select the “Custom” option to ensure you’re performing a clean install and not an upgrade install.

Partition your system drive however you like. If you just have a single Windows partition, you can tell the installer to overwrite it. If you have many partitions, you could delete them all and tell Windows 10 to install itself in the unallocated space.

After you log into your new, cleanly installed Windows 10 system, it should automatically activate itself after you connect to the Internet.
To ensure it activated correctly, open the Start menu and click on Settings. click the Update & Security button, and go to the “Activation” tab.
windows activation tab

Verify that you see “Windows is activated” here. Also, note the edition of Windows 10 you have installed — either Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro. Most people will receive the Home edition as part of the free upgrade from 7 or 8, but you’ll get Windows 10 Pro if you previously had a Professional edition of Windows 7 or 8 installed.

When I reinstalled Windows 10 Pro on my computer, it activated immediately. But, if Microsoft’s activation servers are overloaded, it may take some time before your system activates. If it’s not activated, you may see information here that can help you activate.

Some people report having to reboot several times, while others have just waited. The following command can force an activation to occur if it’s not happening automatically after going through the steps above. First, open an Administrator Command Prompt by right-clicking the Start button or pressing Windows Key + X and selecting Command Prompt (Admin). Type the following command and press Enter:

slmgr.vbs /ato

Many people report having to run this command several times. if you see an error message, try rebooting and running it again, wait and run it again, or just wait and let Windows activate automatically. Microsoft’s servers may be overloaded at the moment you’re trying to activate.
windows product activation

Option 2: Perform a Reset and Remove Everything
If you’ve already upgraded to Windows 10 and want a fresh install, there’s an easier method. You can use the Reset feature to reset your Windows 10 system back to a fresh state. If you installed Windows 10 yourself, this should give you a fresh Windows system in no time.

There are a few demerits, however: this method isn’t the best for every situation. If you purchased a computer that came with Windows 10, for example, this will likely bring back the bloatware that came with your Windows 10 PC.It won’t fix some system corruption issues, in which case you’d want to perform a real clean install using Option 1 above.

To reset your Windows 10 PC, open the Settings app, select Update & security, select Recovery, and click the “Get started” button under Reset this PC. Select “Remove everything.” This will wipe all your files, so be sure you have backups.

Microsoft’s free upgrade offer depends on your PC’s hardware so it may not activate properly if you’ve changed an hardware inside your PC. You may need to call Microsoft and complete the phone activation process, explaining what happened, if you changed the PC’s hardware after taking advantage of the offer. The phone support line can give you an activation code that will allow you to activate Windows 10, even if it won’t activate automatically. However, you may have to provide additional information.

Technically, the free Windows 10 upgrade (as well as OEM copies of Windows and pre-installed copies of Windows 10) aren’t supposed to be transferred to a separate PC. But often, the phone activation process will let you do it anyway, so it’s worth a trial.
