Google Chrome WARNING -Horrific malware can steal YOUR credit card details

Google Chrome is a fast, secure, and free web browser, built for the modern web. It is a freeware web browser developed by Google. It was first released in September 2008, for Microsoft Windows, and was later ported to Linux, macOS, iOS and Android.

google chrome malware steals credit card details

Google Chrome users have been warned about a new strain of malware that can steal saved credit card details from the hugely popular internet browser.

Security experts from Proofpoint are putting Google Chrome fans on their hills about a malware researchers have dubbed Vega Stealer.

The malware is a variant of the August Stealer strain that was discovered back in December 2016.

That piece of malicious software was capable of stealing saved passwords, documents and sensitive data from Chrome, Firefox, Skype and Opera.

The Vega Stealer malware is being distributed through a spam e-mail campaign.

It tries to trick people into clicking on it with subject lines likes “online store developer required”.

The e-mail includes a Microsoft document called “brief.doc” that contains malicious macros that deliver the Vega Stealer payload.

Speaking about the malware in a blog post, Proofpoint researchers said: “The document macro utilised in this campaign is a commodity macro that we believe is for sale and used by multiple actors, including the threat actor spreading Emotet banking Trojan.”

Once Vega Stealer has infected a computer it starts stealing data and searches the victim’s desktop for different file formats.

This is done for exfiltration purposes and then the malware sends the data to a remote command and control server.

Proofpoint added: “While Vega Stealer is not the most complex or stealthy malware in circulation today, it demonstrates the flexibility of malware, authors, and actors, to achieve criminal objectives.

“Because the delivery mechanism is similar to more widely distributed and mature threats, Vega Stealer has the potential to evolve into a commonly found stealer.
“Vega Stealer…could have longer lasting impacts if further developed and distributed. Due to the distribution and lineage, this threat may continue to evolve and grow.”

As always, one of the best ways to stay safe from malware delivered by e-mail is not to click on suspicious looking messages with attachments.

This is especially the case if the e-mail is allegedly from a well-known company but the e-mail is not registered to their official domain.

The news comes as Google Chrome continues to hold onto its crown of the world’s most popular internet browser.

'Take a Break' Feature For YouTubers to Help deal with Addiction

Google has rolled out a new set of controls that will allow YouTube users to set limits on their video viewing, and help them set "Take a Break" reminder from browsing the channels for too long, a media report said.

 youtube addiction

The new feature will enable the users to set a reminder for every 15, 30, 60, 90 or 180 minutes, at which point the video will pause and users will receive "Take a Break" notification that they have been binge-watching videos for longer than they decided to.

Users can then choose to dismiss the reminder and keep watching, or close the app, the TechCrunch reported late Friday. The changes announced during Google's I/O keynote will roll out in the latest update of YouTube, along with YouTube's ability to send notifications. The reminders will come with an option of being dismissed and the feature will also allow users to disable notification sounds during a specified time period each day.

The new features are first expected to hit the 13.17 and higher versions of the YouTube mobile app on both iOS and Android, the report said.

Google Pay now supports web browsers on PC, iOS: Here are its benefits

The fast, easy, and free way to send money to friends and family. If they have an email address or phone number, you can pay them with Google Pay – whether you're going to order that pizza, or sending money halfway across the country. No more IOUs. No more bank transfers. Just an instant way to pay using the debit cards already in your wallet. Send or request money.

Google Pay
Google has announced the expansion of its Google Pay payment service to more devices. Google Pay is now available to access on the web for iOS and desktop, which means that the browsers on both the platforms, namely, Google Chrome, Safari, and Firefox will integrate Google Pay for any transactions. Google earlier this year merged Android Pay with Google Wallet into a single entity called Google Pay.
In a blog post, Google’s Product Management Director for Consumer Products, Gerardo Capiel, announced that besides adding new platforms for Google Pay, saving a credit/debit card to Google Pay on a Pixelbook will make it accessible on the web across devices. Google Pay will not require the user to input any payment details again once they have been saved. While checking out on Chrome or other browsers, Google Pay will automatically fill in all the billing and shipping details.

The most interesting feature that Google Pay brings to the disposal of the customers is the ability to update the details of the new cards if the old ones have been misplaced or lost. As soon as the user’s bank issues a new card, Google Pay will fetch the details automatically, so he/she doesn’t have to manually enter them again. Same is the case with the cards that have expired. On the issuance of a new card by the bank, the same will be automatically updated on Google Pay.

Google is also rewarding the users who use Google Pay app on their Android devices. There are rewards for making payments, as well as for inviting friends via referrals. Google Pay is now live in the US, Canada, Poland, Russia, Australia, and the UK.

Instagram releases Feature For Hiding "Bullying" Comments

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyberbullying can occur through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in social media, forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content.
Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or mean content about someone else. It can include sharing personal or private information about someone else causing embarrassment or humiliation. Some cyberbullying crosses the line into unlawful or criminal behavior.

  cyberbullying instagram comments

The most common places where cyberbullying occurs are:

Social Media, such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter
SMS (Short Message Service) also known as Text Message sent through devices
Instant Message (via devices, email provider services, apps, and social media messaging features)
Email.

Instagram unveiled its latest plan to combat online bullying this week when it announced a new filter that hides comments that attack a person’s appearance, character, or threatens a person’s wellbeing or health
The anti-bullying filter is automatically on, and alerts Instagram to repeat problems with bullying, along with hiding bullying comments.

“It’s been our goal to make (Instagram) a safe place for self-expression and to foster kindness within the community. This update is just the next step in our mission to deliver on that promise,” Instagram co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom said in a blog post this week.
The new filter is an addition to last year’s offensive comment filter, which hides “toxic and divisive” comments aimed at “at-risk” groups.

Bullying prevention charity Kidscape called the measure a “positive step” but said that technology such as this filter isn’t the sole solution to online bullying. “A filter is no substitute for talking about what is acceptable and what is not, supporting each other and role modelling”, the charity said in a Tweet.

"Teaching young people about healthy communication online and reminding that there is a person at the other end of their message is important in building a safer online environment. It is also vital for adults to be role models and to demonstrate kindness and respect. While technology has a role to play, every person plays a part in making the internet a healthier, safer place" Kidscape said in a statement to Happiful.

Although bullying is not the fault of the person being bullied, Kidscape recommends the following steps to prevent bullying:
Don't respond: Never get involved in arguments online, as this will only escalate the situation and make it much worse.

Block the bullies: You can easily prevent cyberbullies from being able to contact you by following our cyber safe settings.

Increase your privacy: Unfortunately, some people use the internet to cause harm to others. Don't let this small group ruin your experience, but be sensible with the information you share. Follow our privacy guidelines to keep yourself protected.

Respect your online presence: It is easy to forget that the cyber world is the real world, and what you share online can have huge consequences. It is therefore so important that you always think before you post!

Apple AirPods Are Wonderful: See details about the New Improved Apple AirPods.

AirPods will forever change the way you use headphones. Whenever you pull your AirPods out of the charging case, they immediately turn on and connect to your iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac. Audio automatically plays as soon as you put them in your ears and pauses when you take them out.

  apple airpods 2

With 24-hour battery life and groundbreaking ease-of-use and intelligence, AirPods are wireless headphones unlike any other.

After meeting with several companies in Asia, an analyst from Barclay suggests Apple AirPods unit shipments will likely hit 30 million sales in 2018. Apple is reportedly planning to release new AirPods with Siri integration and the new Apple AirPods will be water resistant. According to reports, these wireless earphones will come with better noise cancellation.

Siri integration is important because it will significantly change the way people use the voice assistant on AirPods. The new model coming later this year or in early 2019 will have always-on Siri functionality. It means users won’t have to tap the earphone to activate the voice assistant. With just a command “Hey Siri”, the voice assistant will start working. It is the same way how people activate Siri on an iPhone and a HomePod speaker without having to physically tap the device.

Apple has also designed an upgraded Bluetooth chip for the new AirPods and this chip will be managing wireless connection on the earphones. The current model of AirPods sports a chip called W1 and with the Apple Watch last year, the company introduced its own chip named W2.
Water resistant AirPods will not survive if you submerge them in the water, but they are likely going to survive splashes, just like how the iPhone 8 does. There’s still no official word about the same. But Apple has already designed smartwatches that can be submerged into the water, so it’s too early to say the company won’t do the same with updated AirPods.

After iPhone, wearables account for the speedy revenue growth for Apple and the company is expecting this category to grow in the future. Apple already confirmed it will release an upgraded version of the AirPods case. These cases will enable wireless charging for the Apple AirPods and just like how iPhone X users charge their phone, AirPods cases will do the same. Apple is also working on AR headsets and the company will likely introduce the product sometime in 2020.

The updated Apple AirPods will reportedly come with noise-cancellation. If it happens, we can either see a minor change in the design or maybe the company will make sure adding extra comfort and better fitting by making some changes in the earbuds. There are fewer chances of active noise cancellation this time.

People are satisfied with the current model of the AirPods, but adding more comfort and grip to make AirPods fit for everyone, and making improvements and design changes is great. No need of physical tapping will surely make users’ life easier because it will reduce the risk of accidental drops. Giving AirPods splash resistance ability will help joggers, gym goers, and travelers who don’t want the costly pair to be damaged by sweat or raindrops.

As far as the release of improved Apple AirPods is concerned, some analysts suggest Apple will release the new AirPods in early 2019. There are also reports about the new model of the wireless headphones coming in late 2018. Since Apple has not confirmed anything about the release of its new AirPods, it’s better to take such information with a pinch of salt.

What seems believable and realistic is Apple will introduce an improved version of AirPods. The company has seen tremendous growth in demand for its wearables and AirPods play a major role in this area. In terms of delivering true wireless music experience, these earphones stand strong and account for 85 percent of total wireless headphone sales in the U.S. It is huge in itself.

All the groundbreaking things AirPods can do are driven by the custom-designed Apple W1 chip. It produces extremely efficient wireless for a better connection and improved sound. And the W1 chip manages battery life so well, you can listen for 5 hours on a single charge.2 It’s performance that’s unheard of in a device this small.

Want your smartphone to have a good battery-life? Start charging it the right way

If you want to get the most use out of your phone between charges, you can't go wrong with these tips to Start charging your smartphones the right way.

best way to charge a phone

You know how much you rely on your phone. It’s no wonder that robust battery life means more to you than you ever thought possible.

This might come as a shock, but most of you have been charging the phones and tablets the wrong way.

You must have heard or read on WhatsApp about phone on overnight charging exploding and causing injuries or death to the user while the person was asleep. Well don't worry, the overnight charging wouldn't do that to your phone, but it is also not recommended, according to the findings of Cadax , a company that offers devices that test smartphone and other batteries.

According to Battery University, which the company runs for free, the phone needs to charged in short bursts and not too frequently, if you want to a good overall battery life.

It doesn't matter if you only charge up 10% or 20% as, according to Battery University: "Partial charges cause no harm."

Also, if you want to lessen the wear and tear to your battery, do not hit the red zone, which is 15 per cent in most of the phones.

Try to keep the device between 65% and 75% -- "the sweet spot", according to the website.

Many of you might be thinking that "hey, I don't have a desk job. I won't be around a wall socket all the time." Well in that case lay your hands on a power bank.

The experts have also recommended that never ever, never ever, never ever charge your battery fully.

Try to keep it around 95 and you are good to go.

Why you ask?

Well, that's because today's modern lithium-ion batteries do "not need to be fully charged, nor is it desirable to do so."

The website states: "In fact, it is better not to fully charge, because a high voltage stresses the battery".

And now, the last point, which may confuse you.
'You don't need to remove the charger when it's full'

What? 'I just read something on the contrary'. Well, yes you are right. But, if it so happens that you have left your phone on charging and it has hit the 100% mark, then the charger, according to the website, will automatically turn off.

Still, it is recommended that you avoid leaving your phone on overnight charging, hitting the 100 per cent mark and inculcate the habit of juicing up the device frequently and in small doses.

NCC Imposes N500,000 Fine on Networks that Violate DND Instructions

The Do-Not-Disturb service allows Telco customers to opt out of receiving promotional messages for 3rd Party services (Bulk SMS, VAS promos, etc.)

      dnd ncc fines telcos

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC has imposed a N500,000 fine on telcos that disregard the  Do-Not-Disturb (DND) instructions. Mr. Philip Eretan, Deputy Director, Licensing and Authorization at the NCC, issued the warning on Thursday. Mr. Eretan spoke at the Telecom Consumer Parliament.

This news is a big step in combating the long-standing issue of unsolicited calls and messaging.

Why is this an Issue?

Unsolicited messages (also known as Value Added Services) are a constant feature for Nigerian telecom subscribers. Value Added Services help share information about products and services that consumers could find useful. Of course, this is not peculiar to telcos, banking, education and many other sectors also employ the use of unsolicited messages.

However, the feature is being heavily abused. Nigerians have constantly been harassed with unsolicited messages from various service providers. Characteristically, the telecom operators themselves send out the most messages. Messages about low credit, data offers, new services, and caller tunes offers have completely taken over the inbox of most users.

The only way out is to block spam messages is to activate the DND feature. DND blocks unsolicited text messages about promos and services. And according to the NCC, the DND feature is active on 9 million telecom subscriptions.

NCC fines the DND feature is active
However there’s one problem: DND doesn’t block spam messages from telecom operators. Exploiting this, telecom operators in the country have continued to molest subscribers with needless messages.

NCC’s Fine Could Restore Normalcy to DND

To correct the situation of unsolicited calls, the NCC has imposed a 500,000 fine on telecommunication companies that violate DND instructions. The new fine would help strike a balance between providing useful value added services and controlling the flow of unwanted messages. As a matter of fact, NCC boss, Prof. Umar Danbatta has said consumers who activate the feature and telcos must observe the DND instruction.

Of course, it would be interesting to see how this imposition of fine plays out. But considering the huge N1.2tr fine NCC imposed on MTN two years ago, telecommunication companies would want to be cautious.

Google and YouTube are under the same canopy, so naturally, YouTube’s services and features are designed and optimized for Google products like its Chrome browser. So it’s not surprising that YouTube TV supported only Chrome for quite a long time ever since its launch. It makes sense.

But now we have some good news for non-Chrome users. It looks like Google is slowly loosening its grip on YouTube TV’s browser requirements and learning to play with others. According to YouTube TV’s support page, Mozilla’s Firefox browser has been added to the list of compatible browsers. The support page doesn’t tell us which versions are supported though, but we can guess that it is the latest one so users should probably upgrade to be safe.

This brings the total number of support browsers up to a whopping two: Chrome and Firefox. It’s a start. The support page also mentions that support for more browsers is expected to come n the future, so if you’re using Opera, Microsoft Edge, Safari, or others, support may be coming soon.

For those using Firefox, you can head over to YouTube TV and try it out if you haven’t done so already. It’s nice that support is now opening up more today.

Apple Allowing users download all iCloud and Apple ID data

Apple is switching up its privacy policies to satisfy the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, which takes effect May 25, Apple on Thursday announced they shall soon rollout an update to their website which will allow Apple users to download a copy of all of their personal data stored by the company.

Apple letting users download all iCloud and Apple ID data
Bloomberg reports that customers will be able to download a copy of the data stored across Apple’s apps and services, including their Contacts stored in iCloud, Calendar information, Photos, Music preferences, and more.

The report also notes how the company will allow users to delete their accounts without directly contacting Apple, and will give them the power to update/correct personal information and disable their Apple ID account on-demand.

"The iPhone maker said it will update its web page for managing Apple IDs in coming months to let users download a copy of all their data stored with the company. The site will also let customers correct personal information, temporarily deactivate their account, and completely delete it."
The data trove will be accessible through the company's Apple ID Web portal. People will also be able to correct personal information, temporarily deactivate an account, or delete one entirely.

The options will come to Europe in early May before spreading to other regions. People were previously able to accomplish the same tasks, but typically only by contacting Apple and requesting it.

Today's iOS and tvOS updates also include notes better detailing Apple's privacy policies, and how data is used in individual apps. New iconography highlights when an Apple app wants to share personal data.

In recent years the E.U. has often adopted a tough stance on privacy, for instance enacting a "right to be forgotten" from Google searches.

At this month's China Development Forum, Apple CEO Tim Cook called for stringent privacy safeguards —even though the Chinese government regularly snoops on residents and now has full access to local iCloud accounts if it wants it.
